Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Metal Stamping Tool and Die Engineer with over 10 years of expertise in designing, maintaining, and improving metal stamping tools and dies. This role requires a deep understanding of metal forming processes, tool and die design, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This role also requires a proven track record in the maintenance and troubleshooting of metal stamping tools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tool engineering, coupled with hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design and development of metal stamping tools and dies to meet production and quality standards.
  • Oversee the fabrication, testing, and debugging of new tools and dies.
  • Collaborate with the product design engineers, machine engineers, and manufacturing team to ensure a seamless integration of new tools into the production process.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tool performance and reduce costs.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of tool designs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Direct and oversee hourly tool & die makers and die setter personnel – 6 direct reports.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures and schedules to enhance tool longevity and reliability.
  • Diagnose and oversee repair of tool and die issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing tools to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and testing of tools to identify potential problems and take corrective actions.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance tool performance and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in tool design and maintenance technology.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in tool design with metal stamping tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of tool and die design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of metal stamping tools.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., VISI, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and attention to detail abilities.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with project management as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • In-depth understanding of quality control standards and practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with CNC machining, wire EDM, and tool fabrication including traditional tool room equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.).
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations in a manufacturing environment.
